"Lovers Riddim": Verses Every Stylista Should Live By

Lovers Riddim- a music style that encompasses soft reggae vibes. Tunes played in after hours clubs and bars that is filled with fiery rhythm and slow wines and grinds. Also know as lovers rock. The connection one has with their counterpart is filled passion, lust, and grooves.

My love for cultures is undeniably outstanding. I love to show proper respect, appreciation, and promote various cultures. Hence why my old title was A Cultural Mesh. Yet as we embark on a new chapter of the year, we focus our attention on setting the tone for the months to come. The second month of the new year, Spring semester is in session, taxes are being filed, summer trips are being booked, and Fall/Winter 2016 fashion presentations are being showcased all over the globe.

We are currently in New York Men's Fashion Week. Menswear is a style that I will always adore. Many of my looks I create are inspired by Menswear designers and collections. Following this week's fashion festivities will be Valentines Day. A day that I have yet to encounter with a partner. A day couples of all age groups express their so called love and admiration for their loved ones. This time of the year was my favorite in grade school. We would all come dressed in pink and red and exchange VDay cards, lollipops, and candy hearts.

Yet as we get older we understand that love isn't really always sweet. Love can be taboo and in most cases people do not celebrate this holiday because of its lack of authenticity and force of relationships. One is not forced to have a Valentine or await to ask or be asked to "Be Mine." I have never had a Valentine. However I have come to the conclusion that I Will Be Mine this year.

Look in the mirror and ask yourself "Will You Be Mine?"

A Queen's "lovers riddim," better yet anecdote to myself this Valentines Day is to:

  1. Love yourself unconditionally. Drown yourself in unapologetic self-love. Embrace your awkwardness
  2. Invest into yourself and your needs. Never settle according to another being's standards and guidelines
  3. Focus on what makes you happy and do it with passion and ambition. Never lose sight of the end goal, therefore take on the task at hand to be successful
  4. Remain authentically you
  5. Move with reason and purpose
  6. Do not stop creating even if you do not see the support you would like, do it because you love it
